Is there a Difference between Sessional Kinder and Long Day Care Kinder?
In terms of the educational program, there is no difference between Sessional Kinder and Long Day Care Kinder. Both are based on the National Frameworks, the Philosophy of the Service and include school readiness. They are just different delivery models.
Sessional Kinder has set program times and children must be dropped off and picked up in line with those session times, which are generally shorter days. Long Day Care has the benefit of being able to take advantage of the longer days and service open times, while also receiving a kinder program for 5 hours of each day.
Further subtle differences include: Long Day Care is catered, has higher ratios of educators to children and children are able to make friends with a broader range of children increasing the chance they will know more children who they will go to school with.
Sessional Kinder on the other hand generally has shorter days, the same children day to day and run during the Victorian school term times, so have the school holidays off.
Can I tour the service?
Yes, we offer tours of the service by appointment. These are usually run one day a week at 10.30am.
Can I do another time? Or on the weekend?
We find that 10.30am is a great time to see the room program in practice. The children have usually all arrived for the day and its between meals so will give you a better sense of the program. Later in the afternoon often clashes with meal time or rest time and so would limit the ability to go inside the rooms without disturbing the children.
How do I join the waitlist?
Our waitlist is electronic and can be accessed here.
Can I claim CCS at HEY?
Yes! HEY is a registered childcare service and CCS can be claimed.
What is CCS?
CCS is the abbreviated term for the Child Care Subsidy. To receive it you must apply via Centrelink and meet the eligibility criteria.
Does CCS get paid to the families or the Service?
It is paid to the Service on your behalf and families will be charged the gap (or difference between the daily rate and the CCS amount).
What is the daily rate?
Our daily rate is available here.
What is the 4 year old Kindergarten Government funding ?
In simple terms, the Government funding is an amount of funds the government provides to the service per eligable child to assist the service in supplying a 4 year old kindergarten program.
Does the Government funding mean the daily rate will be discounted?
Though the Funding provided by the government contributes towards the cost of running the kinder program it does not cover the whole cost of the program. In practical terms it means that in the Long Day Care families do not pay anything additional to the daily rate to access Kinder and the Sessional Kindergarten families pay a smaller ‘gap’ fee to access Kinder.
